Elle Peterson wakes up to see herself in a coma that she can’t awake from. In this comic book take which sort of resembles the movie Ghost and the book series Remember Me by Christopher Pike, Elle needs to find a way to wake up and find the person who tried to kill her before she ends up dead. Elle meets others who are on the other side of the living who help her as she watches the living and finds clues about the attempt on her being murdered. As she gets closer to figuring out who may have tried to kill her, she realizes that it’s difficult to trust in her friends and family since no one is who they seemed. This psychological thriller will keep you guessing and wanting more in this who done it mystery as Elle races against time to find the person who wants to kill her.
The book kept me intrigued the whole way through. I got to the end and wanted to read the next issue. The writer, Jim McCann, did a phenomenal job with keeping me guessing. Elle has an advantage being disembodied because she can see the true intentions of those who visit her body in the hospital. I got an idea of who is torn up over her comatose state and others who seem relieved that she’s lying in the hospital bed. The panels in this book help to distinguish when the story covers the past and when it shows the present time-frame so the reader won’t get confused. Rodin Esquejo did an excellent job with drawing the scenes which really brought the story to life while the coloring by Sonia Oback takes the drawings to another level with the vibrancy she uses to show vivid details with the two realms and I enjoyed her ability to use cool tones to give pops of color while playing down with muted tones simultaneously, so suspenseful scenes were able to feel darker without being gritty which went better with this graphic novel.
I’d recommend this book, especially if you read Morning Glories which is another comic with the artwork of, Rodin Esquejo and is another graphic novel published by Image comics.
